I grew up in the south west of Western Australia on a farm and spent a lot of time collecting natural and manmade objects and observing structure and texture of all that surrounded me. I would grab leaves from trees feeling their waxy veined length and then crush them and smell the pungent gum. Hunting for fossils along the limestone ridges that traversed the landscape whilst collecting smooth, twisted mallee twigs and logs to heap up and have a bonfire and watch the millions of sparks reach for the stars. Dusting my Nan's little keepsakes for her when she was alive and hearing stories of the faraway places they came from. Little did I know that these sorts of activities would feed my creativity for this time in my life - discovering how to reproduce these sensory delights into artworks.
